Australian Open: Petra Kvitova fights back to reach quarter-finals
Seventh seed Petra Kvitova battled from a set down to overcome Greek Maria Sakkari 6-7 (4-7) 6-3 6-2 and reach the Australian Open quarter-finals.
Where there were 12 breaks and 28 opportunities to achieve that, the group struggled with their service games in a competition.
Herself struck in the ninth and seventh games to take the second pair after trailing by a set and a break.
The 22nd seed level dropped in the third because the Czech 2019 finalist victory with another break.
Kvitova will now face either world number one Ashleigh Barty or even American Alison Riske at Melbourne.
“I really don’t know how I found my match,” she said when asked about her fightback. “I just kept acting. I knew it’d be a tricky match.”
