Chicago Bears 24-20 Detroit Lions: Mitchell Trubisky leads Bears to comeback victory
Mitchell Trubisky threw for 338 yards and three touchdowns as the Chicago Bears beat the Detroit Lions 24-20 in Ford Field.
After edging forward in the fourth quarter using a game-winning touchdown out of David Montgomery the Bears increased to 6-6 for the season.
An eighth defeat of this year for the Lions (3-8-1) staged a first NFL start for undrafted rookie quarterback David Blough, who finished 22 of 38 for 280 yards, two touchdowns and a late interception at the lack of Matthew Stafford and Jeff Driskell.
Trubisky started the match perfectly, going four for four to an opening drive that finished with a touchdown pass to Allen Robinson.
Blough introduced Kenny Golladay on 10 and a second and himself.
Having held the Bears to a punt on their next possession, the Lions and Blough restricted a nine-play push to shoot their first lead of the game.
The Lions’ defense, ranked 29th against the pass heading into the game, backed their crime up at first half and made it an 10-point match in 17-7 thanks to some Matt Prater field goal after a roughing-the-passer punishment against Leonard Floyd had assembled Blough’s 34-yard connection with Golladay.
There was time to get an Eddie Pineiro field goal before the half to cut the deficit.
A poorly-placed Trubisky pass led after the period to the interception of the game, Darius Slay coming with the selection on Detroit’s 22 after beating Robinson, who couldn’t readjust punctually to produce the catch.
The subsequent hold on shield of chicago was rewarded by having an 18-yard touchdown from ending Jesper Horsted to level the scores at 17-17 following a pass by Trubisky.
The other Prater field goal set the Lions 20-17 up with 10 minutes remaining to round off what had been a 70-yard push. The Bears needed for limiting the hosts following the cornerback’s big attack on JD McKissic at the line to deny what seemed a certain touchdown on third plus 38, Kyle Fuller to thank.
Trubisky was come by back over the left sideline using a pass to Miller, using the pair linking up again for a 32-yard gain to put the Bears after a delay of game penalty around the two-yard lineup, and then the seven. As Trubisky chose out Montgomery for a three-yard touchdown to make it 24-20 following Pineiro’s additional point that would not prove costly.
The Bears put stress on themselves together with two penalties because the Lions sought inspiration inside the last two minutes from Blough. But Roquan Smith eased the tension with a sofa for a loss, until Eddie Jackson secured the victory with an interception to a pass intended for Golladay.
Up to the Bears is a visit in the Dallas Cowboys, although the Lions are expected to Go to the Minnesota Vikings.
