Commonwealth Games 2020: India to stage archery and shooting competitions
A move to point shooting and archery competitions in India before their 2022 Commonwealth Games at Birmingham was accepted.
The Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) has said that the competitions would happen in Chandigarh in January of the calendar year, with the main Games in Birmingham starting in July.
The event was stated by the CGF and the Games in Birmingham would be funded and organized.
They may, but issue a medal table including the Chandigarh results a week following the Birmingham final ceremony”as an additional and final legitimate position of competing countries and lands from the respective competitions”.
Birmingham chose not to contain shooting or archery .
This past year, india, that have a fantastic record in competitive shooting, initially threatened to boycott the Games after that decision, but fell that threat in December.
CGF president Dame Louise Martin stated:”I am thrilled that we have approved India’s rough proposal to sponsor a Commonwealth Archery and Shooting Championships in Chandigarh during 2022.
“Commonwealth archery and shooting athletes now have an unparalleled chance to compete in an elite event that will showcase the very best of Commonwealth sport and add value to the Commonwealth sports movement.”
Birmingham 2022 chief executive Ian Reid stated:”We’re very happy to hear that the Commonwealth Games Federation executive board has declared Commonwealth Games India’s (CGI) suggestion for a separately organised and financed Commonwealth Archery and Shooting Championships, which will be held in India in January 2022.
“There is a very long tradition of Commonwealth Championships being held throughout the globe, featuring a number of unique sports, so it’s great news that India will be continuing that heritage.
“We’d love to wish the Government, CGI and each of the organisations and governing bodies engaged in organising and financing the Chandigarh 2022 Commonwealth Archery and Shooting Championships best of luck and we look forward to a terrific year of Commonwealth sport in 2022.
“Birmingham 2022 will start on 27 July 2022, five weeks following the Commonwealth Championships in Chandigarh.
“With a packed programme of 19 sports, featuring women’s cricket and 3×3 basketball for the first time in history and the biggest ever integrated para-sport programme, with eight unique sports contained, we are convinced that Birmingham 2022 is going to be a great celebration of culture and sport .”
