Derek Jeter unveils ‘next chapter’ of Players’ Tribune with new ‘partnership’

The former baseball player was part of the consortium that bought the Miami Marlins. He even contemplated purchasing the NFL team, the Buffalo Bills, at 2014.
However, to his most ambitious project, Jeter set out on October 1, 2015 — to make a new genre of athlete-led sports journalism. Consequently, he set The Warriors’ Tribune.
Its aim was to produce”first-person tales from athletes, providing exceptional insight to the daily sports conversation.” In the past few years since its creation, Jeter considers it has come to be a”real global athlete community”
But times are changing, and the website has entered a new stage with what it calls a”venture” with Minute Media.
Jeter said inspiration for founding the site originated in his days as a professional baseball player.
“I knew from my own expertise in locker rooms and on road trips that athletes were actually great storytellers, but that you did not always observe that side of them if they had been facing a microphone or a camera,” Jeter told through an email .
“I expected that we can give athletes a trusted location where they might be themselves and tell their tales in their own words. However, I think what amazed me, and that which surprised everybody on the staff was deep athletes were ready to go.
“I don’t think we wanted to alter the public’s understanding of athletes, so we just wanted to bring fans a bit nearer to them in a real way. We needed you to feel like you’re a fly to the wall.”

‘anything’ wouldn’t change
Since its founding, athletes who have contributed to the site have spoken on various topics. From”depression, anxiety, racism, addiction, bankruptcy, prison, you name it,” additional Jeter.
At 2015, Los Angeles Lakers star Kobe Bryant announced his retirement on the site at a poem called”Dear Basketball.” After Kevin Durant signed with the Golden State Warriors in 2016, he announced the movement on The Warriors’ Tribune.
A few of the Players’ Tribune successful stories were seen by a significant number of viewers.

On the other hand, the website has struggled for viewers . The site’s traffic rated number 69,757 in the U.S. over the previous 90 days, based on Amazon.com Inc.’s Alexa. In contrast, The Athletic ranks number 4,768.
It has fought for funding. That the moving has become tougher — they increased $40 million in 2017 — while funds were easy to increase from the first few years. And the firm has had to make staffing reductions because of this, according to reports.
Reaching a new crowd is offered as the reason for the new venture with Minute Media, but Jeter insists the whole concept behind The Warriors’ Tribune was not about”chasing clicks”
“The major vision we had was we didn’t want to create content that we clicked and read or watched for a couple of seconds and then completely forget about the next day,” that the five-time World Series winner inserted in the email with.
“We want to create content which you recall and that matters on the planet. Trainers and manufacturers expect us because they understand that we are creating quality material, not clickbait.
“I would not change anything regarding our site’s trajectory. What is pushing us into this next chapter is that there’s so much demand from athletes all around the world.”

Reaching a new degree
Minute Media’s portfolio comprises sport websites such as The massive Lead, 12up along with 90min.
Whilst Jeter doesn’t anticipate”anything changing” for him on a day-to-day basis, he is confident The Warriors’ Tribune could attain the”next level”
“They are investing in taking The Warriors’ Tribune into the next level because of our trust in the athlete area and because of our world-class storytelling,” the former New York Yankee said.
“The most significant thing is that our incredible creative staff, that has the trust of athletes all around the world, will not just stay the same, but will find more support and investment to help them tell more stories from all around the world.
