Despite Patrick Reed controversy, cheating is ‘not a big issue’ in golf, says Paul McGinley

Paul McGinley reacts to Brooks Koepka’s’sandcastle’ comments about Patrick Reed and looks at some.

I was interested, like everyone else, to listen to what Koepka had to say about Reed and listen to him being so forward with his points. Integrity has become an important part of our sport and is among those things we’re most proud of at golf, therefore we should do.
I personally do not think that this was an isolated episode and we’ve got a major problem with cheating in golf, but it is something that we should stamp out having authority as it crops up for that.
From the Reed case, I believe that when he had revealed a little bit more humility in his interviews later then people would have guessed him harshly than he’s been. There has been a figure of things coming against Reed now that’s putting him in a bad light, which doesn’t reflect well on the game.
He could have said’it wasn’t my intention but I find I have got to be careful going forward and it seems bad and I did not try to deceive’, however he didn’t do this. You can not convey the’cheat’ phrase and you can’t say he certainly did it because we don’t have 100 percent proof, so it is a gray area in that way, but when you find the replays it does not seem great.
McIlroy to celebrity in Mexico?
I understand Rory McIlroy did not win a significant last year but regarding his consistency and his inherent statistics, he’s never been better and can be in the kind of his own life.
His putting has improved from around 150th around the PGA Tour over the last two years up to 24th, which was a catalyst in his shape and his job with Brad Faxon was a large part of the
There are a lot of men coming with a great deal of kind, although I think he is the guy using the bookies which makes him favorite to beat and McIlroy has got his aggressive advantage back .
Tommy Fleetwood has been fabulous on the market, such as a win and has been enjoying with a bit in Europe. Jon Rahm has been enjoying excellent, Justin Thomas has a superb record in Mexico and Dustin Johnson has gained around here.
Johnson beat McIlroy at a this past year and it was a big win . He’s won six World Golf Championships but just one major, which is a reflection of the player he is.
In 20 years’ time, when we look back at their careers, we’re likely to judge players with their own performances in majors as well as these major WGC events, therefore Johnson should win more majors to make it the stellar CV he must possess.
Johnson has been the genuine player in the 3 years that it’s been played together using the high elevation, so having a simple idea is the key.
