Pope, 21, has kept wicket in only five games that are outstanding. He’s expected to bat.
The series’ final match, that New Zealand lead 1-0, begins at 22:00 GMT at Hamilton.
The hosts won the first Test at Mount Maunganui.
This past week buttler substituted his back at the gym.
Chris Woakes replaced slow left-armer Jack Leach, leaving England without a spinner.
