Fabinho: Jurgen Klopp admits injury could be ‘massive’

Jurgen Klopp says he is uncertain of the severity of Fabinho’s injury, but claims that the result is”massive” following the midfielder limped off at Liverpool’s 1-1 draw with Napoli.
Fabinho, who has played in all but one of Liverpool’s Premier League matches this year, limped off in the first half after Dejan Lovren tried to undertake Hirving Lozano.
He had been substituted by Georginio Wijnaldum in the 19th minute and can be prohibited against Brighton on Saturday, but Klopp will be eager to get him back to the Merseyside derby next Wednesday.
“The biggest thing is that the Fabinho injury, that is massive,” said Klopp.
“It is early and all of us hope it’s not too severe but it’s fairly painful and in an area you do not wish to have pain, round the ankle”
Asked by reporters how serious the injury might be, Klopp included:”I don’t wish to say what I anticipate because I hope it isn’t severe.
“He’s pain, which isn’t great. He couldn’t continue. I hope it is not that serious. We are going to know more maybe tomorrow or day afterwards.”
Klopp admits it is never easy at Liverpool and says after their Champions League progress has been halted, that he hadn’t planned ahead to proceed to Red Bull Salzburg using a weakened side.
Even the draw with Napoli means Liverpool need a lead to Salzburg at a fortnight’s time, and means any of his star players can’t rest amid a period of fittings.
But Klopp said he never anticipated to get it enough to really have the luxury of going to Salzburg not having anything.
“When we’ve got aspirations in the Champions League, then we have to show that at Salzburg – and until then, we must demonstrate our aspirations in the Premier League. You will find a couple games to play until then and we need to get concentrated on them – and we’ll be, undoubtedly.”
