Former Aston Villa manager Ron Saunders passes away
Former Aston Villa manager Ron Saunders has passed away at age 87.
He is widely regarded as one of the club’s biggest ever managers, as he lifted two League Cups, directed Villa to promotion in his first season in charge and steered the club to a league championship in 1980/81.
Saunders handled Yeovil, Oxford, in addition to Villa’s competitions Birmingham and West Brom, Manchester City and Norwich, whom he promoted to the top flight.
Aston Villa stated:”It’s the sad duty of this soccer club to announce that our former manager Ron Saunders has passed away at the age of 87.
“He expired today, Saturday 7th December, at 3pm and his loved ones have requested for their privacy to be honored at this tough time.”
As a mark of regard, the players will wear black armbands and maintain a span of applause on Sunday afternoon.
