IPL is the biggest tournament in the world, says Owais Shah
Owais Shah says the Indian Premier League is the”largest tournament on the planet” and believes success there can alter a player’s career.
After securing a deal for the championship sky Sports will show the IPL for the subsequent three years.
Shah says the experience is unlike anything the world will be encountered across by a cricketer and featured for four different IPL teams.
“It is probably the largest tournament on the planet, the many followedclosely,” he told Sky Sports. “If you look at nations such as America, apparently that is the country where the IPL has been followed closely the most outside of India.
“Then you throw in the financial benefits which are on offer for the players and if you put that together as a package, it’s a terrific, wonderful competition and that’s what makes it big. This is something you do not encounter anywhere else in the world when you are involved with it.
“As an example, outside your team hotel there are tons of people 24/7 waiting merely to have a glimpse of a player maybe leaving to find some food or somethingthey are there for a picture opportunity.
“Then on your resort, if you purchase food to your room, the guy who brings your food will probably have all the particulars of how you completed in the IPL, not just that year although the last two or three decades. Their knowledge is ridiculous and the entire country just lives and breathes cricket”
With all the men’s T20 World Cup just a couple of months off, Shah thinks playing in the championship can help the England players to grow.
“Eoin Morgan has played with a lot of IPL cricket, Jonny Bairstow has done really well in the last couple of years then you have got Ben Stokes, Jofra Archer and all these men have benefited from enjoying T20 cricket at the IPL,” he explained.
“It is just a great place to go and showcase your abilities and it can really impact your entire career… when you play at the IPL, your own worth goes up since when that auction comes around the next year, guys are putting up their paddle to bid for you as well as the financial rewards can be ridiculous as the likes of Tymal Mills and Stokes have experienced.
“As a professional cricketer, you want to practically tell the world just how great you are and to announce yourself about the IPL stage sends out the message to the remainder of the world, followers of T20 championships, this guy has came.”
One participant who Shah is currently financing to do that in this season’s competition is.
“I have been seeing him at the large Bash this winter and he’s a really very fascinating prospect watch out to him,” he further added. “It assists with him being at KKR having an English captain in Eoin Morgan, hopefully he will get the nod. And, naturally, he’ll wish to impress the [England] selectors.
“I also like Shimron Hetmyer, who has had a fantastic winter in India. Batsman in the Caribbean, he looks really exciting and he’s got the capability.
“If you’re going to be prosperous in IPL Wars, then you have got to be able to dominate twist and I felt Hetmyer did that in the one-day series against India.
“Two young guys, one is more established than the other but those are the two men who can light up the IPL this year.”
