Jose Mourinho says he had no contact with Arsenal before Unai Emery sacking
Jose Mourinho says he did not have any contact with Arsenal about replacing Unai Emery prior to taking more than Tottenham supervisor.
Mourinho, 56, has been reported to have met the mind of football Raul Sanllehi of Arsenal since the position of Emery began to come under threat.
Emery was sacked on Friday, nine months after Mourinho became Spurs supervisor.
“As it was written that I had been at a meeting with Mr Sanllehi, it was not accurate,” Mourinho said.
The Portuguese manager took at the arch-rivals Tottenham following the sacking of Mauricio Pochettino of Arsenal with Emery still in his place in Emirates Stadium.
Former Chelsea and Manchester United boss Mourinho signed Spurs on up a contract before the end of this 2022-23 season.
Argentine Pochettino has been among the names connected with substituting Mourinho and Emery says he is looking forward to playing against Arsenal again – .
The Gunners will be hosted by spurs at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in late April.
“I look forward to playing against Arsenal. I want to play against Arsenal. I know what it means to our fans,” Mourinho said.
“But with Mauricio or even Emery or even Freddie Ljungberg or whomever else, that is no issue.
“I understand the large ones and I know that is a huge one. Not only because Arsenal is as we do, a big club which struggles for the very same objectives. But I know the meaning. And I enjoy it”
