Ladies European Tour vote in favour of ‘joint venture’ with LPGA
Ladies European Tour players have hunted into a venture with all the LPGA that will offer many of them a opportunity.
The merger has been announced after the LET yearly membership meeting in Spain ahead of the week’s Andalucia Costa del Sol Open de Espana Femenino, while it was also revealed that the Order of Merit in Europe would be renamed the Race to Costa del Sol at 2020 with bonus awards on offer to the top few players.
A joint statement published by the two Tours affirmed the partnership will be”collectively controlled by the LPGA and the LET andalso, through their joint assets, will try to fast track an enlarged LET schedule”
The intent is to give LET players opportunities to feature in significantly more prize money being offered by LPGA events, and LET board chair Marta Figueras-Dotti is delighted with the offer.
“Two teams, linking for one common purpose, will make chances we simply could not have pursued on our own,” explained Figueras-Dotti. “At its foundation, this joint venture is about generating opportunities for our associates to pursue their enthusiasm, and their careers as professional athletes.
“In just the 60 times since we started working on this joint venture, we have already seen a dramatic impact on our LET Tour schedule – an effect that will be a positive effect for almost all of our LET Members.”
LPGA commissioner Michael Whan added:”It is an exciting next step for the LPGA’s assignment to provide more opportunities for women within this game.
“Over the past ten years, the LPGA has experienced tremendous success cooperating with other golf stakeholders, such as the USGA, PGA Tour, European Tour, The R&A and PGA of America, to enhance opportunities for women worldwide.
“We are thrilled to deepen our connection with the Ladies European Tour in an effort to produce the strongest possible women’s tour in Europe. We have experienced incredible increase in women’s golf in the US, which is an opportunity.
“I am excited that this is something we’ll assemble together, with the LET.”
