Lucy Bronze out of England’s SheBelieves Cup title defence with calf injury
Lucy Bronze has withdrawn from the squad for the defence of the SheBelieves Cup title of England with a calf injury.
The Lyon full-back, who had been named the Player of the Year 2019 of UEFA Women, was replaced in the squad from North Carolina Tar Heels ahead Alessia Russo.
Russo, 21, was capped at every age level for the Lionesses and steps up into the squad was named as a training participant to the Lionesses’ SheBelieves Cup campaign.
University of South Carolina defender Anna Patten takes her position.
Bronze tweeted:”Disappointed not to be more healthy for camp. However, a fantastic prospect for some fresh faces. Very good luck girls.
“Haven’t missed one camp and be present at every single game for the previous five years. Gonna have enormous FOMO next week.”
Bronze will stay in France for therapy on the problem.
England’s name defence begins against world champions USA in Orlando before confronting Japan in New Jersey on March 8 and Spain at Frisco.
