Novak Djokovic to play Adelaide International ahead of Australian Open
Novak Djokovic will perform at the inaugural Adelaide International tennis contest in January before the Australian Open title defence.
Before representing Serbia from the ATP Cup, world No 2 Djokovic will start his aggressive preparation for its season in the Mubadala World Tennis Championship at Abu Dhabi from December 19-21.
Even the Serbian, who beat Rafael Nadal to claim a seventh Australian Open title earlier this year, will arrive in Adelaide for its combined WTA and ATP tournament in January 12-18.
The women’s area will feature American Grand Slam winner Venus Williams, alongside world Number 1 Ashleigh Barty Petra Kvitova along with Kiki Bertens.
“Novak and Venus are amongst the all time greats of our game and we can not wait to watch them right here in Adelaide,” tournament director Alistair MacDonald said in a statement.
The Australian Open, the year’s first Grand Slam, will be held in Melbourne Park from January 20 until February 2.
