Nuno Espirito Santo showers praise on Wolves players for Europa League heroics
Nuno Espirito Santo says his players deserve all the plaudits for their run in the Europa League.
Wolves reached the knockout stages of a European competition for the first time in five years after the 3-3 draw Braga, that keeps his unbeaten away record in Europe of Thursday.
“I’m really proud because we embraced the question of every one of the contests and unique scenarios [we have been ],” Santo said ahead of the weekend’s visit of Sheffield United.
“We did it. We did this [not me].
“I believe it’s the exact identical group of players who started from the Championship basically – the core of the squad is here. It’s us it’s the fans who are embracing this journey.
“It’s been so many, many years [because the club have flourished in Europe] and it feels good to be successful.”
Striker Raul Jimenez had a hand in all three of Wolves’ targets and has already notched this year. But Santo believes the Mexico international can get better.
“I always state the game of Raul goes beyond the aims,” Santo said.
“It’s the way that he plays, the way he disturbs teams, the manner he retains the contour. It’s his gift, his qualities, and he is doing really well.
“But I truly believe he still can improve, there are aspects in his game which he can improve and it’s up to the team to help him triumph.”
Wolves’ Player of the Year last season Joao Moutinho penned a fresh manage the club and Santo is thrilled he could count on the former Inter Milan midfielder at the forthcoming seasons.
“I am quite pleased because what Joao has been doing was great,” he said.
“It’s not only what he can on the pitch, however out the pitch – the way he assists the young folks, the way he transmits all of his acquired experience He has during the years at a lot of clubs,
“Joao is really a European winner, hence the things he gives into the young lads is amazing and I am quite thankful and pleased.”
