Pauling: Global Citizen a massive player in open Arkle
Ben Pauling is confident Global Citizen holds a chance in a wide-open Racing Post Arkle at Cheltenham next month – so long as the earth is not testing.
A hurdlerthat the eight-year-old set a lacklustre chasing debut when winning the Wayward Lad Novices’ Chase at Kempton over Christmas.
Pauling plans to take as his Cheltenham prep steps upward, him Kempton to get a while this week.
“He is in good shape,” stated the Cotswolds coach.
“He schooled well on Thursday morning after David Bass hauled him over three fences double.
“We are very pleased with him but we could do with better weather for him. We will just get what we’re given.
“He’ll probably visit Kempton to get a racecourse gallop on Tuesday, on the deathbed.”
Pauling has high hopes for Global Citizen in a particularly competitive renewal of the beginner tournament.
“His form has worked out great,” he added.
“When he ends up at the form that he had been in at Christmas I think he’s a gigantic player.
“Rouge Vif (moment at Kempton) has come out and been very impressive in the Kingmaker. Brewin’upastorm is a unknown quantity, since we have not seen a lot of him, however, our lad has to be there with a shout.
“You don’t know how the Irish kind will work out in England, therefore it’s going to be interesting. It is an enjoyable race – it appears very open.”
