Pep Guardiola hails Real Madrid as ‘kings’ of Europe ahead of Champions League clash
Pep Guardiola has Hailed as Real Madrid Because the”kings” of the Champions League Before Manchester City’s clash with the 13-time European champions.
City journey to the Bernabeu for its first leg of their Champions League tie Wednesday knowing they are to beat Real in four attempts at European competitors.
Guardiola has lots of experience of confronting Real from his time as a player and director at their bitter rivals Barcelona, and he understands the size of this task his City side confront.
“I played with many instances against them as a player and a manager and I constantly had an incredible respect for the history of the team,” explained Guardiola.
“I know how hard it is against the quality of the players. I really don’t understand how many finals they’ve played or how many occasions they’ve lifted (the prize ).
“For us, perhaps Claudio (Bravo, together with Barcelona) has won the Champions League but we don’t have some players that have won this contest.
“But we have the urge to be ourselves. We can win, we can lose but we must attempt to be ourselves.
“For us there is an excitement. We strive to do our best, knowing we perform against the king of this rivalry.”
If City fail to discover a means it now appears set to be their final preference of European soccer before the 2022/23 season at the first – and maybe their last using Guardiola at the helm.
UEFA have prohibited them in their own opponents for the subsequent two seasons due to”serious breaches” of the Financial Fair Play regulations.
City say that they will appeal the penalty and Guardiola insists he will not walk away – but that his contract in the Etihad expires by the conclusion of next season.
He explained:”This is the actual, real evaluation. We dream the Champions League but to do that we have to face these teams earlier or later.
“Now it is the last 16 but it could function as quarter-final, final or closing. You have to beat Actual or Barcelona or Bayern (Munich), you have to beat the huge clubs in such competitions.
“If we are in a position to do it we shall be so satisfied. If not then next season. . .well, next season I do not know but when we can play with we are going to return.”
