After a late Jack Harrison aim earned them a 1-0 win over Reading at the Madejski Stadium leeds moved over West Brom in the Peak of this Sky Bet Championship.
Yakou Meite went closest with a header for the hosts at an initial half devoid of chances for either group, while Stuart Dallas’ hard drive drive cannoned off the crossbar near the conclusion of the second.
But when it looked like the two sides would need to settle for a stage under the lights in Berkshire, Helder Costa delivered an inch-perfect cross which Harrison headed home from close range (87) to its Leeds winner.
A fourth win sees Leeds sit on peak of the division, for 24 hours at least, with West Brom in action at home to Bristol City on Wednesday night. Reading’s second consecutive defeat leaves them in four points above the relegation zone.
The 1-0 loss suffered by the Royals at the weekend against Brentford brought an unbeaten start to a near under Mark Bowen and this is the monster the Welshman has quickly transformed them into, they put about putting that right straight away.
Meite appeared intent on being the player to inflict damage that was premature and he saw a skid following three minutes, even while the ever-impressive Ovie Ejaria danced from the opposite flank, just to be halted in his tracks from Dallas.
Leeds were patient at the build-up and methodical in their efforts to perform out from the trunk, but during the 45 minutes that they didn’t register a shot. They were almost punished moments before half-time although John Swift’s corner goalwards was led by Meite however, luckily for them stood company.
The rate increased after the rest clearly. Patrick Bamford, perhaps, ought to have done better when he met with a Mateusz Klich cross at the far post, however, within minutes, Dallas had silenced the home fans if the magician kept out his magnificent drive .
When a volley smashed to the side-netting as approached hearts were in mouths, although his near-misses were forgotten three minutes as Costa along with Ezgjan Alioski combined to fatal effect.
The latter proved to be the receiver of a sumptuous pass by his team-mate, letting him clip a cross towards the six-yard box, even in which the onrushing Harrison led the line to secure the victory within.
Before his loan move from Brighton Ben White had not played in the Sky Bet Championship, but you would not have guessed it.
The 22-year-old has, arguably, was one of the best players to Marcelo Bielsa’s side the term and that he pitted against the Royals, helping to keep George and Meite Puscas’ danger while demonstrating a nuisance from set-pieces too.
While Leeds welcome Middlesbrough to Elland Road reading travel to the DW Stadium to face Wigan on Saturday afternoon. Both matches get kick-off at 3pm.
