The return on the undercard into Andy Ruiz Jr vs Anthony Joshua of dillian Whyte could be confirmed shortly, promoter Eddie Hearn has stated.
Sky clients Ruiz Jr v Joshua 2 Non-Sky customers: Purchase Ruiz Jr v Joshua two
“Quite strong chance,” Hearn told Sky Sports News. “We’re looking at competitions and trying to get it confirmed.
“Hopefully at the next 24-48 hourswe can have some more news on if Whyte will join AJ and Alexander Povetkin vs Michael Hunter and Filip Hrgovic vs Eric Molina to a enormous heavyweight night in Saudi Arabia.”
Joshua plans to recover the WBA, IBF and WBO belts from Ruiz Jr at the event on December 7, live on Sky Sports Box Office, and an interesting subplot could be added by the return of Whyte.
Joshua’s rival Whyte hasn’t fought since outpointing Oscar Rivas at July.
He also became the mandatory challenger to the WBC name with this result, but the governing body suspended that standing afterwards Whyte returned an”negative finding” in a UK Anti-Doping evaluation.
Whyte said that he won the struggle against Rivas”fair and square”.
But the WBC have postponed his world title shotsaying:”If his position has been resolved, he will eventually be the mandatory challenger for February 2021.”
The WBC belt will likely probably be defended from Deontay Wilder from Luis Ortiz on Sunday morning at 2am, live on Sky Sports Action. Wilder plans another battle.
Whyte’s wait to get a world title shot has been criticised as”frustrating” and”ridiculous” by Hearn.
“The UKAD situation is frustrating, we’re waiting for them to issue an announcement,” Hearn said .
“Whyte is rid of box now, tomorrow December. But we want clarification. We want transparency.
“Whyte is going to probably be back in the ring soon and I believe he deserves a shot in the world championship.”
It now seems that Whyte, whose only career defeat came against Joshua, will return as his rival in Saudi Arabia on the exact identical bill.
Watch Andy Ruiz Jr vs Anthony Joshua two in Saudi Arabia on Saturday December 7, live on Sky Sports Box Office.
Deontay Wilder vs Luis Ortiz is on Sunday morning at 2am, live on Sky Sports, following Callum Smith vs John Ryder on Saturday night.
