Ryder lost to Smith via unanimous decision but still believes he did enough to win the WBA super-middleweight title.
Asked if he feels like a recently crowned winner, Ryder said:”I do, oddly. The service I have had on websites because has been overpowering.
“You do question yourself I feel that I won, and my staff do. But total strangers on the road are saying I won.
“We’re chuffed in the performance, angry at the decision. It’s a pity that my dream didn’t come true on this night, as it should have done”
Ryder does not anticipate a rematch with Smith, who kept alive his own dream of a struggle at Liverpool’s soccer stadium using Saul’Canelo’ Alvarez and Gennadiy Golovkin on his wish-list.
“I don’t know if I will find another shot with him since he is searching for the huge fights with Canelo or even Golovkin,” Ryder said.
“Billy Joe Saunders will be filled up with confidence and certainly will think he could beat Smith. Billy Joe has an incredible jab, and that I out-jabbed Smith. Plenty of fighters will now think that they can beat Smith.
“Canelo is beats and elite anybody but it always come down to the night time – nobody thought I could conquer Smith, but I believe that I did.”
Ryder felt disrespected by Smith’s post-fight assert he performed below-par due to having”no fear”.
“Everybody saying he wasn’t himself? Since I got my strategies position on,” Ryder said.
“He was not fully concentrated, and he wasn’t, but that is his fault. I should be the champion.
“I sensed throughout camp that he had one eye on fighting Anfield. You do not buy a lottery ticket on what to do with your winnings, without planning. He had one eye on me, 1 eye in the future.”
Asked about his future plans,” Ryder said:”I think my next battle will be to get a world title – there is talk of the WBA’regular’ name, and there’s discussion of Billy Joe.”
Saunders is your WBO super-middleweight winner, the WBA’routine’ belt is held by Canelo but not to be defended by him. Caleb Plant (IBF) and David Benavidez (WBC) are another belt-holders.
